Where can I find industry ratios?

Answer

An industry ratio (sometimes called industry benchmarks or averages) reflects the average financial or operational measures within a specific industry. They are calculated by aggregating financial data from multiple firms in the same industry. Common ratios include profitability, liquidity, solvency, and efficiency.

You may find industry ratios in the RMA eStatement Studies database. This database provides current and historical financial ratio benchmarks (FRB) and industry default probabilities (IDP) measures for hundreds of major U.S. industries. You may search by industry keyword or by NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) code.

To find an industry's NAICS code, you may visit the US Census Bureau's NAICS resource page

To find individual company ratios to analyze against the industry, search the Morningstar Investing Center database. Here's how to find company ratios in the Morningstar database.
