How do I place a hold on library materials?

Answer

Placing a hold on library materials prevents others from checking it out before you can visit the library and can make it easier to pick materials up. If an item is checked out, placing a hold will ensure that you will be the next person to check it out when it is returned.

  1. When you find a book, DVD, or video game in the library catalog that you'd like to hold, click the button that says Place a hold.
  2. Click the sign in button that pops up to be able to place a hold on the book. You will sign in with your Webster single-sign-on (SSO) credentials, which is the same as logging into your email.
  3. Click the Place a hold button again.
  4. Select EWL Webster University Library as the pickup location and confirm by selecting Place Hold.

We will send an email to your Webster University email address when the material is ready to pick up. If you arrive at the library before you receive this email, your material may not be ready for pick up. When you visit the library, your material will be on the shelf inside the Library's entrance foyer marked with the first two letters of your last name followed by the first two letters of your first name. Books are held for 10 days and media is held for 7 days before returning to circulation if not retrieved.
