How do I find and use a database permalink?

Answer

If you want to provide a link to a full-text source from the Library's databases, you cannot copy the web browser URL. Using the web browser URL can cause errors because you had to sign on to access the databases. So, if you want to create a retrieval link to a particular item you should use the "permalink" or a "share" link provided by the database. You can copy and paste this permalink URL into World Classroom, an email, or online as a more reliable link to the document (e.g. in a citation). When a Webster University user clicks the permalink, they will be prompted to log in to the Library's databases/eResources.

Below is some more information on how to correctly obtain the permalink in a few of the our largest database platforms.

EBSCOhost databases

  1. Once you find an article you like, click on the article's title. This will direct you to the Detailed Records page.
  2. On the Detailed Records page, there is a “Tools” menu. Click the Permalink icon.
  3. At the top of the screen, the correct URL will pop-up. Copy the URL link.
