Do I need to purchase Public Performance Rights?
Answer
If you plan to screen a film publicly at an event, gathering, or in any space outside of a home or classroom setting with more than a few people, you will need to have public performance rights for that title. Please first see Copyright Law and Screening Films at Webster.
Webster University Library already has many videos with Public Performance Rights for Library and School use.
Some streaming service subscriptions come with public performance rights built into the Terms of Use, others require you to buy it separately or don't allow public performances at all.
For further questions about screening library-owned films see the section titled "Showing or playing media in a public setting" in the Copyright and Fair Use Research Guide, or contact eresources@webster.edu.
